Escape Room as a Birthday Gift — Why It's the Best Idea You'll Have This Year
Another sweater? Another bottle of cologne? An experience gift stays in memory for years. Why an escape room voucher is the smartest Prague gift for someone who has everything.
How many presents from last year do you still remember? And how many are sitting in a drawer somewhere? Classic gifts — sweaters, cologne, mugs — usually end up within six months either stashed away or returned. An experience gift is different: the recipient remembers who gave it to them even three years later. And escape rooms are among the strongest experiences Prague has to offer.
Why an experience beats a thing
Psychologists have studied this for decades. Experiences create longer-lasting happiness than objects because:
- You look forward to them — from opening the envelope to the day of the game, it's weeks of anticipation.
- They're shared with people you love — an escape room is played with a group, so the memory lives between people.
- They become a story — "remember that time we almost didn't make it with Peter?" you tell for years.
- They don't take up space — no drawer, no shelf.
If someone has everything, they probably have that eighth sweater too. What they don't have is the memory of cracking an ancient Egyptian mystery with their friends in 88 minutes.
Who it's the right gift for
An escape room birthday gift works great for:
- A partner — a romantic evening you'll both remember. Particularly strong for couples who've run out of Friday-night ideas.
- A friend who loves a challenge — puzzles, escape, adrenaline, all in one.
- Parents (yes, really) — the 50+ age group plays here routinely. The Egyptian theme is universally understood.
- A company team member for someone turning a milestone age — see our article on corporate team building.
- A teenager 14+ (ideally with an adult) — a fitting alternative to "yet another console game".
Less suitable: for kids under 10 (the puzzle difficulty is tuned for older players), for someone with severe claustrophobia (though our Pharaoh's Tomb is not cramped).
How it works with us
The voucher is simple:
- Buy a gift voucher — contact us by email or phone, we'll agree on the value (game price is 2,090 CZK for a group of 2–5 players).
- We send the voucher electronically (PDF) or printed — we can even do it the day before the birthday if you write fast enough.
- The recipient books a slot themselves via our booking page — they enter the voucher code and pick a time that suits them.
- Voucher validity: 12 months from issue date. You have a year to enjoy the experience.
Tip: if you want to surprise them, you don't have to make the voucher the gift itself. You can book a specific slot directly (say, the weekend after their birthday) and then tell them when and where to show up. Just be sure you know they're free that day.
Packaging: how to present it
A voucher in a white envelope is fine, but a small flourish doubles the effect:
- Put the voucher inside an old-looking ceramic vessel (home decor shops sell "Egyptian vases" for a few hundred crowns) — the recipient thinks they got decor, and finds the plot inside.
- Write a riddle on the envelope — in the spirit of escape rooms, make them figure out where to go next.
- Add a smaller second gift — a book about ancient Egypt, or a mug with hieroglyphs.
What it costs
Our standard game price is 2,090 CZK for the whole group of 2–5 players — which means if four of you go, that's 522 CZK per person. Compared to the price of one department store sweater, that's… an experience costing the same as the sweater but remembered for years.
When it doesn't work
Let's be honest. An experience gift isn't right when:
- The recipient has never wanted to play an escape room and has said so repeatedly — don't force it.
- You have a very tight budget (under ~20 EUR per person for smaller groups).
- The recipient lives outside Prague and can't or won't travel — though plenty of people from Brno, Pilsen, or Ostrava turn it into a weekend.
In every other case: it's one of the best investments in a relationship (friendly, romantic, family) you can make for around 85 EUR.
How to order it
Just write us or call — we'll handle everything within an hour, send you the voucher, and you can print it quietly or forward it to the recipient. Details on the Pharaoh's Tomb page, or contact us directly through our contact page.
This year, give a gift they'll remember for longer than six months.
